We welcome Adult, Junior and Family Volunteers
The Humane Society of Westchester relies on volunteers to assist with a variety of tasks around the shelter and in the communities we serve. Without these dedicated individuals, we would not be able to accomplish all that we do.
There are several ways you can make a difference in the lives of homeless pets by becoming a Humane Society of Westchester volunteer! We welcome Adult Volunteers (ages 18 and older), Junior Volunteers (ages 14 to 17 years of age), and Family Volunteers (parents/legal guardians with children ages 10 to 13, Junior Volunteers with physical, emotional or developmental conditions including those on the autism spectrum, and adults who have legal guardians.). Each group has a program designed for them with different orientations and guidelines.
Ready to lend a paw? To become a volunteer at the Humane Society of Westchester, you must complete the following 3 steps.
(Please Note: Court Ordered Community Service hours are not fulfilled via the Volunteer Program. Please call us at 914.632.2925 or email us email@example.com to arrange for community service hours.)
Step 1: Volunteer Application
Please complete the volunteer application below. Adult Volunteers may submit their applications online. Please be sure the email address you provide on the application is correct. A valid email is required in order to complete the adult volunteer application process. Junior Volunteer and Family Volunteer applicants download a PDF to complete, print and submit the application in person.
Step 2: Volunteer Handbook
Please read our Volunteer Handbook. This handbook will provide you with important information about our volunteer program, including activity descriptions, program rules and guidelines, dress code and more! To view the volunteer handbook, Humane Society of Westchester Volunteer Handbook.
Step 3: Volunteer Orientation
In order to become a volunteer, you must attend a volunteer orientation. Volunteer orientations are approximately one hour long, start at 9:30 am and take place at our shelter.
Adult Volunteers: After submitting your volunteer application, you will receive an email confirming that your application was received. You must respond to this email to sign up for the volunteer orientation.
Junior and Family Volunteers: Be sure to bring your volunteer application with you to the orientation. You will not be permitted to attend orientation without a completed and signed volunteer application.
Junior and Family Volunteers are required to print the completed form and bring it in to the Humane Society of Westchester office.
Volunteers, including Juniors, with physical, emotional or developmental conditions including those on the autism spectrum are welcome as Family Volunteers.
If you are an adult that has a legal guardian for any physical or mental condition, please complete as a "family volunteer" with your guardian.
