We adopted Fae, formerly known as Abby, on Memorial day weekend. I saw her picture on petfinders and called the shelter. I was looking to add a third dog to our home since our oldest is fourteen. I spoke with a volunteer on the phone and from her description, Fae seemed like a possible fit. So we took the long drive to New Rochelle from upstate NY, and I’m so glad we did. Fae is the sweetest most beautiful soul I’ve ever met. It’s been a process though. She was very shy at first and didn’t have a whole lot of confidence. The first week she barely ate or went to the bathroom. She experienced sheer terror upon seeing our car. I thought it best to just carry her in the car and take her to the park so she would eventually associate the car with a positive experience, and that’s exactly what worked. She went from not sniffing on her walk to sniffing everything. And just a few weeks ago she started playing with toys. So far she’s been on quite a few adventures: Minnewaska park, Mount Beacon, Bull mountain, the Walkway over the Hudson, Winding Hills, Awosting Lake, Benedict park and numerous other hikes. We are planning on purchasing a camper in a couple of years and she will be traveling with us. We are so in love! We are also indebted to all the volunteers that brought to us our little Fae.
