Q: I would like to have my pet spayed/neutered but cannot afford the cost of this procedure. Can you help?

Q: I can no longer care for my pet. Can I bring him to your shelter?
A: The Humane Society of Westchester (formerly known as the New Rochelle Humane Society) is a no-kill, limited admission organization. We do not euthanize animals to make space for another. Because of the overwhelming number of stray animals we rescue daily, we cannot guarantee we will have space for privately owned pets without advanced notice. We will accept privately owned pets by appointment only. In the case that space is not available at that time, we will add your name to our waiting list and contact you when we are able to accommodate your pet. In the meantime, we can assist you in finding a new home for your pet by referring you to certain rescue organizations and listing your pet on our adoption page. For more information, contact us!
Q: I’ve lost my pet. What should I do?
A: We recommend leaving a lost report with all of your local shelters. Click here for a complete listing of shelters in the Westchester area and additional tips that can help you find your lost pet. Your lost report can be submitted to us via phone, mail or fax. If you can provide a photo of your lost pet, be sure to include that as well. Q: I found an animal. What should I do?
A: First, check to make sure that the animal does not belong to a neighbor. If it doesn’t, we recommend leaving a found report with all of your local shelters. Q: Does your shelter rescue sick/injured wildlife?
A: We are not licensed to care for wildlife. For wildlife help in the Westchester area, please call 914.967.0511 or contact your local police department.
Q: Do you provide veterinary care for privately owned pets?
A: At this time, we are only able to meet the medical needs of every animal in our care. We cannot treat privately owned pets. If your pet is in need of medical attention, we advise you to contact a veterinarian. If you are in need of financial assistance, please contact the Animal Welfare League at 914.949.9191
Q: I would like to have my pet microchipped. Where should I go?

Q: I’ve come across a colony of stray cats. What is the best way to help them?
A: Feral cat colonies are a growing problem, which grows larger with each litter of kittens born into a colony. Because feral cats are not socialized with humans, they are not candidates for adoption. However, you can reduce the number of feral cats while increasing their quality of life through our Trap, Neuter and Return program (TNR). This program has been proven to be the most efficient and humane way to stabilize a feral cat colony.
The cost of TNR is$60 per cat and includes the spay/neuter procedure, rabies vaccination and ear tipping (for identification purposes). Other vaccinations and treatments are offered for additional fees. Please note that this program is for feral cats ONLY. We will not spay/neuter privately owned pets at our shelter.
